Since titanium has a stronger affinity for carbon than chromium, the titanium carbide can precipitate within the grains instead of forming at the grain boundaries when processing. Hence, it stabilizes the material and removes its susceptibility to the effects of intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 – 1500°F (427 – 816°C).
